London Boys

As I'm sitting in this Peet's Coffee (eww, chain. I know, right) sipping on my latte and finishing up some work that I didn't get to yesterday, I (obviously) took a Facebook break. Some pictures were added from my London trip, and as I was looking at them I realized that I didn't really talk about the awesome guys that I went with...

It was an great group: Ryan, Brian, Andre, Jeff, and Clark. All NY residents. All impressive career guys with jobs including words like "hedge fund", "consultant", and "MD" with some of the most prestigious firms in NYC...and then there was me. #ohwell #amitrashy?

Yes. I'm moving. Again.

Not long ago, I packed my bags, said goodbye to Baton Rouge as I headed off to NYC. I fell in love with the city and I knew from the second I stepped off the plane that I was where I was meant to be. No question.

After about 2 months in the city, I received the call from a former employer with an amazing job offer. The only problem is that it's 2,905.5 miles away...in San Francisco. After much deliberation, I decided that the best thing to do at this point in my life was to move. I came to the conclusion that NYC isn't going anywhere and I can always come back if SF doesn't work out. 

Regardless, my bags are once again packed and ready to go. My oh my.

London Calling

I'm off to London!

I was graciously invited to London by...someone and I'm leaving TODAY! It's going to be a fantastic trip. We're going with a few friends from NYC and we'll be staying about a week. Well...some of us will. Ryan (okay I said his name) will be there for the week for work then off to Zurich the following week. I was invited, but I get to go to a wedding in Memphis, TN. I win.

I think I'll be able to post from there...right? IDK. If so, get ready for tomorow's fashion post. If not...see you when I get back!

OMG this place is so good!

My neighborhood, TriBeCa (the Triangle Below Canal Street) is such a beautiful area filled with cobblestone roads, cute families, beautiful buildings, and some of the best restaurants in the city. With all of them in walking distance, I've been loving picking a new place for brunch/lunch/dinner almost everyday.

Right before Hurricane Sandy, my friend, Tony, came in for his birthday so the morning of, we went to this great little restaurant that I've run past every morning called Sarabeth's. Knowing that I was going to be eating a heavy lunch and dinner, I opted for a lighter option of hot porridge with fresh fruit and honey and a vanilla latte. It was a little pricy for what I got, but I know I'll be back. It's like an all white restaurant with huge windows and beautiful flower arrangements literally draws me in and I can't escape.

Are these pictures too much? I'll answer that...yes. Like - I have to squint to look at them because they're so bright. I got a little carried away with my new photo app...

Well obviously Fall is HERE! I'm so excited. The hurricane kept the water a little warm here, but now that that's over you can now feel the cold crisp air. So where better to enjoy it than Central Park? I don't come to this part of the city too, too often, but I took these when I brought friends, Tony and Brennan when they were in right before the storm. We had so much fun while they were in and it was quite unfortunate when Sandy sent them packing early. Looks like I need another visitor to go to the park with...

Am I Blair?

 

Blair Eadie is a blogger/fashionista who owns the blog, Atlantic-Pacific. Her blog was introduced to me by Krystal from APoL who is equally as obsessed. (FYI - props to Krystal for updating my logo. Are you as obsessed as I am??) I'm super inspired by Blair's blog, specifically the photography and (of course) her overall style. I don't know who takes her pictures, but it's one of the many questions that I'll ask her when I meet her for coffee. Oh yes - I decided to email to say I was moving to the city and that I wanted to meet up. She was super sweet and emailed back saying that that sounded great. Clearly I CANNOT wait.

Regardless - I'm inspired by her blog to step mine up as best I can. Here, I paired my favorite skinny Levi's with a plaid J.Crew shirt, J.Crew sweater, and a hand-me-down Land's End blazer that I had tailored a few years ago. The shoes are Eastland that I got super cheap here and the scarf I got on a random afternoon in the French Quarter. Glasses are these. Enjoy!

Dark City

 

Well...I move to NYC and what do I get? A hurricane. Special.

I've been through a million hurricanes but as I recall those situations, I don't remember them being too bad. I don't mean the destruction, but I mean my personal experience. Back home, we would just evacuate to friend's or family's where I would have electricity, water, etc. Here, there really wasn't anywhere to go during the actual storm so we just watched it out of the window. (Friends, Ryan, Brian, and Andre let me stay at their place; mine lost power/water pretty quickly because of the location). A little way through the night we also lost power AND water so it got a littler interesting. (Helpful hint: fill up the tub with water so you'll have water to flush the toilet). The next morning, the three of us went over to Clark and Jeff's, two very generous/hilarious hosts where we enjoyed a few cocktails and a very long game of Risk. Oh...and showers and electricity. Tomorrow we're heading out to Brooklyn to watch a friends dog and apartment since they're out of the city. Hopefully being in one place will restore a little normalcy.

The point: I'm safe and sound, but a little uncomfortable. Mostly, I'm hoping it doesn't actually take until Saturday to get power.

Another Rainy Day

Well - looks like it's another rainy day in NYC. To be honest - it's really not the overcast part that's so annoying. It's really the humidity that makes it so blah. It's that weather to where if you don't have a jacket then you're cold, but if you do then you're a little too warm. (At least for me. If you just say the word how I break a sweat). I know, I know - I might as well get used to it. I guess I'm just ready for some COLD!

Murray's Bagels

 

I've walked past Murray's Bagels on several occasions and everytime I think to myself - MMM...that place looks yum. Usually because I've just eaten or I'm on my way to go eat (I eat a lot), I haven't had a chance to stop. Yesterday, I was doing some shopping and found myself in Chelsea...right in front of Murray's. Perfection.

There are so many options to choose from it's almost overwhelming...and that's just the bagel choices. Don't even get me started on the individual speciality sandwiches and cream cheese, salad (chicken, shrimp, etc), and fresh fish options. I went with what I thought would be most appropriate of a first timer: The Traditional. It came with fresh Nova Scotia salmon, rich cream cheese, juicy beefsteak tomatoes, crisp red onions, and salty capers. It. Was. Worth. Every. Calorie.

Now I'm completely hooked. What do you think next? I'm thinking NYC Deli Classic.

Chocolate Bar

 

 

The other day, I was walking around West Village on a chilly afternoon enjoying the cool front that had just come through when I started craving a warm latte. The cold does that to me. As soon as it gets below 65 degrees, suddenly only chai/pumpkin spice/caramel lattes will do. Either way, I happened to stumble upon Chocolate Bar, and it was at that moment when I knew that a warm beverage wasn't going to do the trick alone. I needed gourmet chocolate.

After indulging to the point to where I'm not exactly comfortable sharing, I napped a few picture on my way out of the "bar". For me, it's the quintessential NYC shoppe. Cute. Unique. Never disappointing.

FISHS EDDY

 

 

So the other day when I was at the Flatiron Building, I realized I wasn't too far from Fishs Eddy. I hadn't really had a reason to go considering I don't have my own place (and therefore no need for house/kitchenware), but since I was so close I figured why not.

This place is the mecca of controlled chaos and at times looked like a Pier 1 (but better) on crack. There was something in every single nook and cranny and so many options it was nearly unbearable. I loved it. It's almost like a museum where you have to go around and look at everything AND THEN you can go and make your final purchase selections. My aunt had brought it to my attention originally which is how I knew to blog about it the first time, but it's such a different experience being able to write a quick post after actually going. If you're ever in NYC, I suggest you check it out!
