Pomegranate Citrus

Archipelago has been my favorite candle brand for years, but I never really ventured past the scents that I love (specifically Havana). However, for Christmas, Jeri sent me a box with all kinds of things any gay son would love goodies and one of them was Archipelago's Pomegranate Citrus. It smells great - very similar to Red Current but with a slightly more citrus accent. Anchor it with a bouquet of flowers and you're good to go!

Lombard

Yesterday as I was running down to the Golden Gate Bridge from my apartment on Divisidero St. in the Lower Haight, I crossed Lombard St., the most crooked street in the world, and I was like...wait. I know that street. It took me a second, but I eventually remembered it's significance, and I decided to save The Golden Gate Bridge for another day as I headed down Lombard to the spot where it actually curves. To say it wasa "hilly" run may be the bigest understatement of 2012. I took a few picture of the hills that I had to run up, but the angles didn't do them the justice they deserved. Like - at some points (especially close to the spot where the street curves, I was no longer jogging. I would actually say it was closer to a tranny power walk (the image of a lesbian bulldog should also be in your head). Regardless, it was totally worth it. The view was beautiful, and I can now check another SF tourist attraction off my list. #winwin

Jean Shirt

Love.

I've always had an obsession with a good jean shirt. Not one you would get from your company with their logo on it - a cute fitting, Americana-esque vintage jean shirt. I've been wearing mine kind of a lot recently - bordering on too much, but I can't help it! It's just so easy to dress up or down that it's become my go-to shirt for basically all occasions.

Cozy Christmas

This is my first Christmas away from family, and I have to be honest - it's not as hard as I thought it would be. Clearly I love my family and miss them dearly, but this is such a exciting new chapter in my life that it's not hard for the feeling of thankfulness to surpass the sadness. While I am not with family, I am most certainly not alone. Over the past few weeks, I have met some truly incredible friends and I love that I have a chance to spend the holidays with them. So as I'm getting ready to go meet them at a chic bar downtown for a glass or two of Glenlivet, I thought you'd like to see my life from my new view. Cheers and Merry Christmas.

3 Cheese Pizza, Y'all

Making pizza really is one of the quickest, easiest, and most delicious meals a gay guy can make his senior citizen roommates you can make. Prep time is nearly nonexistent, clean up is effortless, and you look like kind-of-a-big-deal because it tastes so good. Even though I made pizza for Jernie (my roommates, Joan and Ernie) the other weekend, I thought I'd make it again so that Joan could take a break from the kitchen (even though I sort of asked her to make a soup to go with the pizza. Mission: Not accomplished)

This is one of my favorite pizza recipes and one of the easiest to make:

BOTTOM:
-boboli Wheat Crust
-olive oil
-diced garlic

TOP:
-smoked gouda cheese
-extra sharp cheddar cheese
-mozzarella cheese
-one sliced roma tomato

BAKE:
-for 20 minutes @ 375-400 (depending on oven)

SOUP:
-tomato soup thickened with a little cellulite cream topped with a basil/pesto sauce

Olive

Jeri's Corner! (It's been a while)

Every year, Jeri (my mom for those who are unaware) makes these olives and gives them out as little gifts to a few of her friends to enjoy with cheeses...or in a martini. It's fairly quick and easy to make and who doesn't appreciate homemade gifts (other than some spoiled little brat probably named Chloe or Connor #nooffense).They're so effing good, I cannot even begin to explain. They're great for any occasion, though - not just holidays. For example, try making them for an office party or birthday gathering. DISCLAIMER: they leave your breath less than desirable.    

So here's what you do:

1. Drain one jar of olives (keep the juice)
2. In a separate (cuter) container, layer the following:
 - 1 10-ounce jar large green pimiento-stuffed Spanish olives
 - 4 fresh oregano sprigs
 - 3 large garlic cloves, crushed
 - Juice 2 whole lemons (slice third and add to container)
 - 10 whole black peppercorns
 - 4 tablespoons fresh lemon juice
 - add as much of the original olive juice that you can fit in the jar
3. Let this marinate over night and ENJOY the next day!

High Tops and Flat Bills

Trashy? Perhaps.
Inexcusable? Some would say yes.
Have I worn both in the past 12 hours? Yes. Together in fact.

My friends (especially those from home) have been a little concerned about my recent "fashion" decisions. I understand where they're coming from, but I still can't help it! Why do I love it so much? Certainly I dress up for work and wear neither FBs nor HTs, but for the weekend...why not?  At least I'm not pairing them with shorts and black socks...yet.

The Cask

One of the things I was REALLY looking forward to when I moved out here was having the chance to work (in person) with my good friend, Maureen. We've worked together at PRO @ EA for almost three years, but I was in Baton Rouge and she was here in California. Obviously we'd chat all day (J/K Matt and Rose) via IM, but it's just not as good a being in person. Well, when I told her I was moving she dropped the bomb that informed me that she I was actually replacing her here. She was leaving! #ugh #wtf #thischangeseverything

Well, since she lives so close we were able to get together in San Carlos at The Cask to enjoy fancy wines, cheeses, and spreads. I love downtown San Carlos - it's charming and quaint with surprisingly good shopping and eateries. We had so much fun catching up, gossiping, and (obviously) drinking. Luckily, since I have 11.5 days off for Christmas, we'll be able to do it again soon!

Skivvies Run 2012

Oh my.

I remember thinking when I first moved here that I was never going to like SF, how I wasn't going to be happy unless I was in NYC, and how there are no cute guys anywhere. Well, that has all changed, my friends. It only took me running around the city half-naked for the deal to be sealed: I love SF.

Supporting the SF AIDS Foundation, "the route of the Santa Skivvies Run begins and ends at Lookout (16th and Market) in San Francisco. The route is a spontaneous romp through the Castro district of San Francisco consisting of unplanned twists, turns, stops and hijinks".

Street Car

What is SanFran most know for? The Golden Gate Bridge. And then...? The Painted Ladies! Ugh - okay the THIRD thing that come to mind when they think of SanFran is the streetcar.

To be honest, I've never actually ridden one; I've never had a need. I take the less glamorous Muni, BART, or Caltrain. However, when I visit my friend, Adam, in Castro I like to get a coffee in the morning and watch the streetcars turn around at Castro and Market. I usually don't stay too, too long because a lot of nudists and homeless people (or worse - a combination) like to park it there ("it" meaning their bare asses and shopping carts)

It's pretty cool because SF uses incorporates "Wheels of the World" so you get a glimpse of all different variations of the streetcar. Check it out.

...and don't even with the pants. I was about to go running.

Hunter Boots

Hunter boots are a must if you A) work on a farm/orchard on the upper east coast (most probably Massachusetts) B) attend a lot of dirty music festivals and are Kate Moss or C) live in NYC. Clearly I fit the bill for exactly none of those - I just like them.

Hunter boots are the perfect shoe option for those who walk/bike to work on rainy/snowy days. There's nothing more frustrating than going an entire work day having to endure wet shoes, socks, and pant legs from walking to work in the rain. (And yes, I understand umbrellas help, but not so much around the feet). They're easy to put on (no laces involved), can endure all weather conditions, and clean up is 100% effortless. 

Today was the first day that I rode my bike to work in the rain, and it wasn't bad at all. My Northface resisted the water up top and my Hunter boots kept my jeans dry. Perfecto!

Isn't this insane?

I ran past this house a few weekends ago, and I couldn't help but take a picture. You can't tell, but there are people right outside of the frame in what I can only describe as a power supply company truck's crane...thing putting up MORE stuff at the top. Like - these fools weren't messing around.

I'm used to seeing this amount of Christmas spirit strewn across massive houses and their yards (or small cities) but never this much this dense. It was nice though and it definitely put me in the Christmas spirit, but kind of made me a little sad that I didnt't have my own space to decorate but also a little relieved that I wouldn't have to take anything down either!

Roommate Dinner

My roommates, Joan and Ernie, have been cooking for me a lot as of late...as in every night. Joan is an amazing cook who whips up some delish eats on the regular(after proof reading this, that sounds completely idiotic, but I'm leaving it because I want you to see how I write before I think things through), but I thought she would enjoy a  break and let me cook for them. After giving it about a minutes thought, I decided to make them pizza. I needed something that was quick (and really more "assembling" rather than "cooking") since I don't get home until late from work after you factor in Caltrain and bike riding. (Plus Ernie and Joan seem to not be on an eating schedule that I would typically be on. I would normally eat around 9 or 10 when they (as most people I'm assuming) eat around 7.)

Crust: Boboli Wheat
Base: Olive oil, garlic, goat cheese
Top: sweet Italian sausage, red onions, rosemary, calamata olives, and mozzarella cheese
